Not work

Three things I do when I'm not designing.

All of them make me better at designing. None of them are on a calendar.

🚌

Talking to strangers

One time I talked to a stranger on the bus for 40 minutes.

He was a retired magician. He showed me one trick. I still don't know how he did it. That's the point.

🍜

Trying new food places

23 new restaurants this year. Two were worth it.

I order too much. I finish all of it. This is my superpower and also my only cardio.

📺

Watching things I've never seen before

I start a new series or movie every week. I finish most of them in one sitting.

Because I need to know what happens next. Curiosity is a terrible sleep schedule and a great way to spend a weekend.

One last thing

Skim through it.

A short letter. My oath as a designer.

I promise to design for the person, not the metric.

To take the risk that makes the work worth remembering.

To ask the question everyone else is afraid to ask.

To ship before it's perfect, and care more than is professional.

To make things that feel like someone was actually there.

To use AI as a tool, never as a substitute for taste.

Let's make something worth remembering.
